Himmaanmäki hill has a magnificent view over the forest landscape of Riiho

The very own observation tower of Keurusseutu was completed in the village of Riiho in 2014. The Riiho Village Association was responsible for the construction project. The tower stands at the top of Himmaanmäki hill, which rises 180 meters above sea level. The observation tower itself is 22 meters high and it has 107 steps. The tower stands firmly on massive copper-saturated pine poles.

At the foot of the tower is a cafe run by the village community. Cafe Torni is especially popular in winter, as it can be reached by skiing along the cross-country ski trail network maintained by the Riiho Village Association. There is a campfire hut in the courtyard of the tower where you can grill sausages after skiing. Visiting the tower is free of charge.

There is a nature trail at the foot of the Himmaanmäki observation tower designed by the artist Veijo Kangasmäki. You can find interesting and educational tasks along the trail. The nature trail is suitable for smaller children as well. There are seven task boards along the nature trail, and the total length of the trail is 700 meters.

Riiho cross-country ski trails

In winter, the Riiho Village Association maintains a cross-country ski trail network around Himmaanmäki. The ski trails are not particularly demanding, and they are well suited for skiers of all levels. The ski trails are very well maintained.

The meandering terrain in the middle of the forest offers peace of mind and a beautiful scenery. There is a connection from the ski trails to the Himmaanmäki observation tower from two directions, so it’s nice to stop off at the tower and reward oneself with a cup of hot chocolate.

Visit Himmaanmäki
